For all of my US followers for whom general public official election day is coming up (Nov. 7th) PLEASE do not become so disillusioned with the current state of higher power politicians that you skip out on voting for local offices; off year and local elections are already critically unemphasized but these are the people who have the most direct power over jails, police, school curriculum, etc. Do not let your grief be weaponized as a distraction from also continuing to fight police brutality, queer and bipoc censorship in schools, bodily autonomy, housing inequality, etc, on the smaller scale battlefields where every vote truly does count

remember how i said israel has to expressly permit any entry or exit even through egypt’s border with gaza? and that this has always been the case and why gaza is considered an ‘open air prison?’
israel is now not allowing irish or brazilian citizens in gaza waiting at the border because their countries called for a ceasefire. it is effectively holding them hostage in gaza as it bombs them. insofar it has bombed the rafah border with egypt five times, and bombed injured evacuees in ambulances en route to the border too.
rogue state, terrorist country, accountable to no one and immune to consequences. israel continues to make a mockery of international law.
so one of the things I was vaguely aware of before reproducing was that people hold a lot of anxiety around the gender of babies and ‘wrongly’ gendering babies (i.e. failing to guess correctly based on their clothes and appearance what their genital configuration is) and having now had a baby: wow, yes, they really do.
I take an extremely laissez-faire approach to baby clothes because like, they are constantly being thrown up on and grown out of and so on, what matters is that they are clean and easy to put on and I am not spending $$$$$ on them. as long as the colour/design is not directly offensive, it’s fine. what this means is that people are quite frequently 'misgendering’ the baby and then falling over themselves to apologise about it.
and, like, I haven’t even had a chance to dress him in anything pink yet; this is based on rules I didn’t expect like 'anything with flowers or sparkly bits on it is for girls only’. equally, I do not care when this happens because it’s an irrelevancy, but THEY care to make sure I am not offended. so I have started telling them “look, he’s only [x] months old; his gender is baby.”
and you know what? you’d be surprised how many otherwise average heterosexual people process this and go “huh, yeah, I guess it is.” there is a tiny amount of hope for the future after all.
my partner & i recently transitioned to being best friend platonic partners and romantically separated (due to some simple romantic incompatibilities) - we’re both very happy with and excited about this change and most importantly we think it is VERY funny and gay to continue doing everything together and living together as exes
